Heidi Carlson, Ph.D.
Education & Life Skills Counselor
Dr. Carlson provides life-skills education including adaptive and positive behaviors that enable clients to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life in both individual and group settings. Dr. Carlson also enjoys helping clients find jobs and appropriate school placement options. Through her college counseling services, she not only focuses on finding the right collegiate fit for a student, but also teaches planning skills to meet application due dates and, perhaps most importantly, she helps students manage the stress associated with applying to colleges.
Dr. Heidi Carlson earned her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Claremont Graduate University with a concentration in Educational Resiliency among Adolescents. She also holds a Masters in School Psychology from Miami University and has training and expertise in evaluating educational and psychological challenges.
Prior to returning to school to earn her doctorate, Dr. Carlson built a successful tutoring, college counseling and consulting company. She has extensive experience helping adolescents, young adults and families identify the strengths, interests and challenges that best inform educational and vocational planning. She integrates her work as a life-skills tutor and coach to help clients develop strength-based goals to be successful. Dr. Carlson rounds out her scope of work providing single-subject tutoring to all ages and is adept at helping students develop more independent organizational and study skills. Her immersion in work is rivaled by her committed volunteer work with area homeless families and her unrivaled fierce love of football.
